April 22nd is International Mother Earth dayand this is to just remind you that ....... Your Mother is calling, don't put her on hold!
Margret Mead, American cultural anthropologist puts the Earth Day into a beautiful perspective
"EARTH DAY uses one of humanity’s great discoveries, the discovery of anniversaries by which, throughout time, human beings have kept their sorrows and their joys, their victories, their revelations and their obligations alive, for re-celebration and re-dedication another year, another decade, another century, another eon. EARTH DAY reminds the people of the world of the need for continuing care which is vital to Earth’s safety."
To remind myself often of Mother Earth and what I need to do , I have created an "Earth Prayer" by largely taking extracts/ phrases from one of my favorite author Dr Satish Kumar's article/ talk on "Soil, Soul and Society"This provides a very inspiring angle as what we all need to be aware off and reminds us to act on it's wisdom, if life on Earth is to be sustained .
Dr.Satish Kumar was a former jain monk , and is presently the editor of the magazine "Resurgence and Ecologist". I was lucky to have meet him and listened to him in person on 10th April 16 at the conference"Yugaantar.....foundations for an ecological future" . I have also added quotes and phrases that inspired me and compiled it into a form that can be recited as a prayer.
A lot ... much of which we already know , but don't put into practice because we do not seriously commit ourselves to a set of actions. It's like our new years' resolutions that we set on the 1st January ,every year ,and which goes out of our minds after about a fortnight or so!
The theme for this year is "Trees for the Earth"
"The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The next best time is now." ~Chinese proverb
So start planting a tree. Find out where you can get a tree sapling and nurture it in your house until the monsoon starts . Then you can plant it in front of your house and watch it grow into a big tree. Learn more about the tree you have planted ...it's name , interesting facts , it's uses .....etc.
There are also many things you can do ...the famous sustainability mantra ."Reduce, Reuse and Recycle"as much as you can on a daily basis..... so........
Go Green, for your health, wealth and happiness.
